Maps
Getting started with BloxMaps
Type an idea, get a complete cartoon-style Roblox map. This page shows the create page and what each option does: size, genre, theme, time of day and seed. Then you build the map in Studio with one click.
Make your first map#
- Open the create page.
- Type your idea in Your idea, like you would tell a friend. For example: "Pirate island with a volcano and a village". Stuck? Tap one of the example chips under the box.
- Pick the options you want (below), or leave them on Auto.
- Press Generate map. A map takes about a minute to build. You see it right there when it's done.
- Happy with it? Press Export to Roblox, then build it in Studio with the plugin (Export to Roblox Studio).
Your idea can be up to 300 characters. Write it in English: the generator reads English words, so emoji and other alphabets are dropped. More detail gives a better map ("snowy mountain village with cabins" beats "snow").
How many maps you can make a day depends on your plan. See Plans, credits and exports.
Size#
How wide the map is, in studs. Medium is picked for you at the start.
| Size | Width | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 512 studs | Quick and cosy: arenas, lobbies, tower defense |
| Medium | 768 studs | The sweet spot for most games |
| Large | 1,024 studs | A big adventure |
| Huge | 1,536 studs | A massive world |
Small and Medium work on every plan. Large needs Starter or higher, and Huge needs Pro or higher. A locked size shows a lock badge with the plan that unlocks it. Battle royale maps are always at least 1,024 studs wide, so players have room to drop in.
Genre (map type)#
Auto reads the genre from your prompt ("obby", "tycoon", "castle"...). Pick one to force it. Each genre builds a different kind of map:
- Games: Adventure island, Obby, Tycoon, Simulator, Tower defense, Arena, Battle royale, Racing, Lobby / hub, Horror.
- Places: City, Village, Castle, Dungeon, Cave, Beach, Mountain, Canyon, Volcano, Swamp, Sky islands, Underwater, Space, Theme park, Military base, Prison.
- Pro and Studio plans: Scenic drive (a road trip with views) and Roadside stop (diners and gas stations).
Obby maps come with checkpoints and pieces that already work in Play mode. Every genre adds invisible markers (spawns, checkpoints, chests and more) for your scripts. See Markers and spawn points.
Theme#
The look: colours, trees, buildings and props. Auto picks the look from your prompt. The themes are Tropical, Pirate, Medieval, Fantasy, Spooky, Winter, Desert, Western, Candy, Volcanic, Sci-fi, City, Japanese, Jungle, Farm, Forest, Apocalypse, Military and Dungeon.
Genre and theme mix: a Candy obby, a Spooky village or a Winter tycoon all work.
Time of day#
Pick Day, Sunset, Dawn or Night, or leave it on Auto. Auto uses your prompt ("at night", "sunset") and what suits the genre: horror maps are almost always at night, obbies and tycoons are mostly by day. Some words pick a time for you, like "neon city" for night.
The time of day sets the whole lighting of the map in Studio, and street lamps switch on for night looks. Map lighting explains what gets set and how to make night maps glow.
Seed#
Open Seed under the options. A seed is a number (up to 9 digits) that the generator starts from:
- Leave it empty and you get a new map every time.
- The same prompt with the same seed (and the same options) gives the same map. Handy to share a map idea or to come back to one.
- The dice button rolls a random seed for you.
Remix a map#
Every finished map has a Remix button. It loads the same prompt and seed into the create page, so you can change one thing (the theme, the time of day, a word in the prompt) and generate again. You can remix maps other people share with you too.
Next steps#
- Export a map to Roblox Studio with the BloxMaps Cloud plugin.
- Grow a map into an open world (Pro and Studio).
- Script your map: spawns, checkpoints, loot and zones.
